Seeking black hex codes?

Whatever your color palette, you want the right hex color codes to make your design sing.

Below you’ll find hex values for 20 black shades so you can pick the perfect one.

Plus answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the color black!

Let’s dive into the depths of black.

What is the Blackest Black Hex Code?

The blackest black has the hex code #000000.

In the RGB color space, black is 0, 0, 0. All the 0s mean that there is no red, green, or blue light. This deep black is the absence of light, so it’s the darkest color there is.

RGB color is subtractive, meaning that 0 is the darkest.

Black #000000 absorbs all light. Complete darkness.

What is the Most Black CMYK?

Black in CMYK is 0, 0, 0, 100. However, for printing purposes this won’t give you the darkest black. For that I recommend Rich Black.

Since printing colors are additive, adding more colors (and more ink) actually makes your black blacker.

A good rich black is 60C, 50M, 50Y, 100K. For a cooler black, you can use 80C, 20M, 20Y, 100K. For a warmer black, go with 20C, 70M, 70Y, 100K.

All of these will give you greater than 200% ink coverage. Be sure to check with your printer to ensure the highest percentage allowable by their offset printing equipment and the paper stock you have chosen.

Black is such a popular color – important in digital design as it gives strong color contrast, as well as the darling of the fashion industry. And one of the top-picked favorite colors.

Below are 19 additional black colors that aren’t quite as dark as pure black above, but are quite dark.
