December Celebrations: Don’t Miss These

Before the fun starts, let’s kick off with the basics most businesses need:

  • Engaging ways to promote sales.
  • Ideas to improve customer loyalty.

December is huge for holiday gift giving and gatherings, with Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and more.

Does your business sell items that could be used as gifts, or in holiday meals and celebrations?

Be sure to create a “gift guide” or “holiday party guide” on your blog, and mention how your products can help readers enjoy their holidays even more.

November promos like Black Friday may be gone, but there’s still Super Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas Eve (that’s December 21 in 2024). It’s another huge shopping day.

And this year, Cyber Monday falls in December – on the 2nd. It’s essential!

Create a series of social media posts leading to your guide, or the individual products.

Be sure you “gift” your followers as well! Depending on what your business offers, the gift could be a discount coupon, a free digital product, or even a high-value physical gift for new clients, big spenders, or those who sent you new clients this year.

You can find details on those ideas and more in my article on Christmas marketing ideas.

December 2024 Daily Holidays

Setting the tone for the entire month is Christmas on December 25.

As soon as U.S. Thanksgiving hits, it’s no longer considered “Autumn” – even though, scientifically speaking, winter doesn’t actually begin until the winter solstice. In 2024, this falls on Dec. 21st in the Northern Hemisphere.

Feel free to jump in and use wintry / holiday themed photos and graphics all month long.

How to Use Festivus (or other fun holidays) for Marketing

Some readers need tips how to use wacky holidays in their marketing.

You do need to have a sense of fun, and add a dash of creativity. But unless your company needs to be very serious, like financial services perhaps, you can use fun holidays while still promoting your business.

You can’t get much sillier than Festivus. Let’s take a look at how you can spin off this holiday to make your marketing more engaging – and even shareable!

But first, a bit of background. Always understand your holidays!

What is Festivus?

Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. source

The modern version of Festivus was first introduced in the 1997 Seinfeld episode, The Strike. Since that first celebration, Festivus has grown from an obscure footnote in Seinfeld lore into a cult holiday phenomenon celebrated around the world.

Check out the highlights of that episode in the video below. Let’s rumble!

How is Festivus celebrated?

Festivus includes 4 easy steps:

  1. Blow off work.
  2. Get yourself a pole.
  3. Air your grievances.
  4. Perform feats of strength.

And of course, you’ll want to celebrate any Festivus miracles. I explain how below!

bare pole in room with no furniture explains 5 ways to celebrate festivus.

Ask your audience to air their grievances

One sure-fire way to tap into this silly holiday is the airing of grievances.

I mean, who doesn’t want to be listened to? So ask your audiences for their complaints about your niche.

This can help you learn a lot about how to satisfy their needs!

For example, say you sell makeup. Ask what “grievances” or complaints they have about makeup in general. Or, if you’re brave, you can ask for complaints about your product or your customer service.

The answers you get should help you improve both your products and your marketing messages. But be sure to acknowledge the comments on social media before you start planning how to use them. Make people feel heard!

In any niche, this should give you plenty ideas for educational content, blog posts, a series of tips to post on social media, and so on.

Could keep you busy until next Festivus!

Share your feats of strength

Here’s a chance for you to toot your own horn.

What does your business excel at? Do you have facts and figures that you can put into a graph or chart? These small infographics are perfect to share on social media, since they communicate information at a glance.

Here’s an example I made with Venngage:

feats of strength comparison infographic for marketing.

You can switch this up! Ask your audience what “feats of strength” they’ve been able to accomplish since using your product, or reading your blog.

You’ll get some genuine, spontaneous replies. Or, plan ahead as detailed below…

Celebrate your magic: It’s a Festivus miracle!

Let your customers and clients brag about the results they’ve received from your service or products.

This is best planned in advance. That way, you’ll not only get social media posts, but also testimonials for your website that can keep working for your company for years.

Find a few clients where you’ve produced remarkable results, and ask if they’re willing to participate. Then decide if you’ll use a short video testimonial, or before-and-after photos. (If you don’t take before-and-after photos of your results, start now!)

On social media, you can tie these testimonials into the holiday by calling them “Festivus miracles” to add some fun.
