CREATIVE Halloween Profile Pictures are Boo-tiful

Creative sort? Stand out by making an original profile pic with Photoshop or PicMonkey.

1 | Halloweenify with PicMonkey

It’s quick as a few clicks with PicMonkey’s overlays, frames, and fonts. They’re ready for you to choose and apply! And we’ll show you how in a short video.

PicMonkey makes it easy to transform yourself into any number of ghoulish, ghastly, or grisly creatures:

  • Vampire
  • Witch
  • Zombie
  • Demon
  • Sugar skull (Día de los Muertos)

Not into scary? Give yourself a superhero makeover in a flash. Boom!

Each “Theme” has numerous goodies for you to play with.

They include an assortment of:

  • Halloween photo effects
  • Crazy complexion edits
  • Graphics, hats, and other embellishments
  • Unique fonts
  • Evil eyes, fangs, blood drops, etc.
  • Freaky frames, labels, or banners

You can use them for a profile picture, and so much more!

Dashboard for the PicMonkey WITCH theme.

To make your profile pic, start with your headshot (facing straight on camera will be easiest) then choose one of these themes. Go as wild as you care to!

I went into Mac Photos > People > Louise, which made it easier to find a face shot I could work with.

Or just snap a selfie!

2 | Creepify with Photoshop

Photoshop user?

While more difficult than PicMonkey, which puts hundreds of resources at your fingertips, with Photoshop you can create anything you can dream up!

I found a helpful video to make a creepy half-you, half skull profile pic.

The video itself is almost half an hour, or you can get text instructions on the original blog post.

Here’s another Photoshop tutorial to creepify your portrait (10 minutes).

Need Photoshop? You can subscribe for as little as $9.99 per month.

As a pro designer, Photoshop is my go-to. Beware the learning curve though!

3 | Fastest Halloween Profile Pic

Want a one-minute solution, and don’t care to show your face?

Find a free public domain (aka CC0) Halloween photo on a site like Pixabay or Unsplash. I curated 4 selections for you below!

Whether you like scary, funny, or cute Halloween profile pictures, you’re sure to find something suitable.

Please only use photos that you have rights to use, as posting any old image you find online is not only wrong – it could also be copyright infringement and get you in trouble. Use a public domain photo sharing site like the ones mentioned above.

Here are a few photos I found on Unsplash. I picked ones that are crisp and clear, and cropped and sized them to work perfectly as your Halloween profile picture.

These images, and these only, you have permission to right-click and download from my site.

4 | Most YOU-nique Halloween Profile Picture

One quick way to get in the spirit of the season is to use a photo of yourself in costume.

If you don’t yet have one for this year, perhaps you can find something from a past year.

I recommend using one where your face can be clearly seen, and cropping in so that your head and shoulders fill most of the frame.

Remember that profile pictures are seen at a miniscule size, so trying to get your whole costume in there will probably result in a tiny image that’s tough to figure out.

Here’s one of me dressed as Ursula the Sea Witch that I’ve been known to use often.

5 | Halloween Profile Pictures with Facebook frames

Did you know? Facebook has a page called “Change Your Profile Picture” where you can add a themed frame or overlay to your own image.

Before using it, you’ll want to have the base image you want already set as your Facebook profile picture, or at least uploaded to Facebook.

You can choose a different photo from the Frames page, but it might take a while to navigate to a suitable one! Best to have it set as your DP as it’ll be pulled into the frame maker automatically.

On the Frames page, search for Halloween, or whatever theme you like.

You have a bit of control over cropping. You can also set how long you’d like this image to stay before reverting to your normal one.

Choose to use it on your personal profile, or any business page you’re logged in as an admin of.

After you do, you can go to the picture and download it for other social networks.

Here’s a direct link to the frame I show below.

6 | Halloween Profile Pictures with Snapchat filters

Another easy idea is to go to Snapchat or Instagram Stories and add one of their pre-made filters to your selfie!

Once you’ve posted your Story, grab a screenshot that you can upload as a profile pic on any social platform you like.

How to Halloween everything!

PicMonkey does so much more than make your profile pic boo-tiful.

Decorate your website, create some quick social media posts, and make amazing invitations and greeting cards. You’ll find a bunch of template examples at the end of this article.
